Red Zone is the development of the STAB (Survival Tactics Against Blades) knife protection system, created by a self-defense expert and master of Greco-Roman wrestling by Karl Tanswell from Great Britain.
The author of Red Zone is Jerry Wetzel. He was trained by Rodney “Chico” King, Paul Vunak, Tony Blauer and are all certified instructors. Jerry Wetzel is also learning Brazilian jujutsu with Chris Haueter.
One of the main concepts underlying the Red Zone technique is the control of the enemy’s armed hand with one hand (this method is preferred by many instructors, in particular A. Kochergin from Koi no takinobori ryu).
Each video begins with an overview of the main mistakes of common methods of self-defense against a knife. Jerry Wetzel goes on to outline the basics of his approach and demonstrate how it can be applied in a variety of situations.
