Quote:The “Supra State”This describes a model of combative psychology in which the practitioner deliberately seeks to create an alter-ego who is more capable of dealing with violence and confrontation than the practitioner’s normal personality.
Actually this isn’t too far away from another sports psychology trick in which the practitioner imagines “becoming” or “stepping into” someone who has all the skill and the resourced they desire to perform well.
This will usually be a hero or mentor in that field of expertise, a role model of some kind.e.g.the golfer who models himself after Tiger Woods, can vividly imagine standing behind him feeling all his experience, skill and resources, then “stepping into” his role models body and playing with that level of confidence, skill etc.
Quote:Creating Combative “Supra States” by Modelling TutorialSupra statesCreating the “Supra State”This describes a model of combative psychology in which the practitioner deliberately seeks to create an alter-ego who is more capable of dealing with violence and confrontation than the practitioner’s normal personality.
Why is this necessary?Because the practitioner’s primary personality is NOT capable of dealing effectively with violence.
How do we know?Well if it was they wouldn’t be seeking training to overcome the limitations of their primary personality.
Obviously not everyone realises or is consciously aware that this is why they seek training, nor do they conceptualise it that way but it is my belief that this is the root cause behind the desire to train.
Its actually not that the individual can’t deal with violence or is frightened of confrontation it’s that their social masks condition them to be weak in the face of danger.
But that’s not the human beings natural state, we’ve had it trained into us.
We are naturally strong, rugged creatures who thrive on challenge and confrontation.
Not comfort seeking placid cattle.
We didn’t get to the top of the food chain by being anything less than the most predatory, robust and cunning animal on the planet.
Remember that.
