This workshop reviews the areas of professional functions that have been most associated with regulatory problems for mental health professionals, including sexual and nonsexual boundary violations, “law-psych” interfaces, competence, “moral” offenses, licensing board and malpractice actions. The workshop covers causes for these problems and ways of avoiding them and/or managing them.
Educational Objectives:
- List the most frequent causes for discipline of mental health professionals.
- State the primary vulnerability factors for clinicians.
- State the primary vulnerability factors for patients.
- List two types of “moral” offenses.
- List at least two steps in licensing board action procedures.
- List at least two steps in the malpractice action procedures.

A. Steven Frankel PhD, JD, ABPP, is a clinical psychologist and an Attorney at Law licensed in California, and The District of Columbia. He is a Diplomate in both Clinical and Forensic Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology. He earned his PhD at Indiana University, and interned at the Psychiatric Institute of Columbia University.
After leaving full-time university service, Dr. Frankel entered clinical practice, with both in- and outpatient responsibilities. Beginning in 1980, his psychology practice focused increasingly on the diagnosis and treatment of post-traumatic and dissociative disorders. He began consulting relationships with trauma treatment programs of private psychiatric hospitals in 1990. In 1993, he joined with Walter and Linda Young in the opening of a unit for the treatment of traumatic and dissociative disorders at Del Amo Hospital in Torrance, CA and remained a consultant to the program until July of 2000. An ISSD member since 1990 and Fellow since 1998, he was elected President of the ISSD for 2001-02.

What is Everything Else?
Everything Else is a product category on Amazon that is meant to be a catch-all for items that don’t fit into any other categories. Over time, as the Amazon catalog has grown and more specific product categories have been added, Everything Else has become less useful and more of a junkyard for cast off and forgotten listings.
Until recently, however.
Why are items listed in Everything Else when they shouldn’t be?
The answer to this is fairly simple. Some sellers are using Everything Else as an opportunity to get around Amazon’s gated category requirements. For example, DVDs with an MSRP of over $25 are now gated Selling certain products and bran… More and require permission to list. So we’ve seen some sellers create new listings in Everything Else to get around these requirements. We’ve noticed similar “workarounds” for other gated or restricted Selling certain product categorie… More categories as well.
Amazon doesn’t like this. It just makes the catalog more of a mess than it already is and ends up creating a worse customer experience.
